SmartPosti is warning all customers and the public about a large-scale SMS scam, in which criminals send messages in the company’s name to lure people into clicking dangerous links and entering their personal or bank card details.
The scam messages give the impression that a parcel delivery has failed and request the recipient’s details to resolve the issue. “We strongly urge you not to open suspicious links or enter your details if you receive an unexpected SMS in our name,” emphasises Sander Borodkin, Head of Sales at SmartPosti. “This current wave of scams is significantly larger than usual phishing attempts and has already resulted in a notable increase in calls to our customer service.”
Due to the high number of enquiries, customer service call waiting times may currently be longer than usual, and responses may take more time.
Customers should be particularly vigilant if the SMS comes from a foreign (e.g., UK) number, contains the SmartPosti name in an incorrect form, refers to a suspicious link, or uses unusual wording such as „jaotuskeskus“, „tänavainfo“, „kapp“ and „parandusteave“. SmartPosti will also never ask you to reply to an SMS or request sensitive information via text message.
