Where is parcel service needed the most? SmartPosti opens 28 new locations across Estonia

3.2.2026

Over the past year, SmartPosti has expanded its network with 28 new locations across Estonia, adding both parcel lockers and service points, and improving service accessibility nationwide. The new locations were opened in major cities, smaller towns, and rural areas – places where parcel services are essential for people’s everyday life.

“Although life, jobs, and services are increasingly concentrated in larger cities, basic infrastructure solutions cannot be a privilege limited only to growth centres. Parcel service has become a daily necessity for people, regardless of where they live,” said Sander Borodkin, Head of Sales at SmartPosti. “New parcel service locations are created where the existing network no longer meets the real needs of the area,” he added.

According to Borodkin, recent months have clearly highlighted several regions where the demand for new locations has been the highest. “It’s not just big cities. More and more signals are coming from smaller towns and rural areas where other services have retreated, but people’s needs have not disappeared,” he explained.

He emphasized that parcel service is no longer just a convenience for e‑commerce. “In many places, a parcel locker or service point is a part of everyday functioning – a way to receive medicines, tools, and essential goods without extra trips or time spent. Service availability directly affects people’s quality of life,” Borodkin said.

Expanding the network reduces the need for people to travel to larger centres and supports the vitality of local communities at a time when many other services are disappearing from peripheral areas. In addition to new parcel lockers, SmartPosti has also reopened several service points that were previously closed but for which there remained a clear and lasting local demand.

SmartPosti continues to develop its network in cooperation with local businesses, property owners, and communities, and welcomes suggestions for locations where parcel services would best support people’s daily lives.

“The most accurate knowledge of where the service is truly needed always comes from the local level – from people and businesses who see daily how and when the service is used. Solutions that are convenient, lasting, and genuinely valuable for the community are created in cooperation with local partners. We welcome further suggestions and input on locations where parcel service accessibility would best support everyday life,” Borodkin emphasized.
