The first local strawberries and cucumbers have reached the market, but SmartPosti reminds everyone: fresh summer products are too delicate for parcel locker delivery and can’t handle the usual handling in the delivery process.
"A strawberry doesn’t need much – even a couple of firmer touches during sorting can crush it. The same goes for cucumbers, which may lose their freshness," explains Triinu Luidalepp, Head of Customer Experience for SmartPosti in the Baltics. "We’re not only talking about temperature, but the entire journey – sorting, transport, and handling. Parcels are lifted, moved, and can get shaken along the way. Fragile food items simply can't handle that."
Although SmartPosti parcel lockers are located indoors, even a stable temperature may not save perishable goods. "Yes, our parcel lockers are indoors and don’t overheat in the sun, but that alone isn’t enough. If the product is inherently perishable, a parcel locker simply isn’t the right solution," adds Triinu.
SmartPosti’s experience shows that, in the worst case, a spoiled delivery can damage other customers’ parcels as well. "If a juicy box of strawberries leaks in the parcel and the next parcel contains someone’s white dress or electronics, the damage is doubled. The sender may be held responsible – and that’s not just inconvenient, it’s costly," she emphasizes.
Let summer bring joy and surprises – not spoiled parcels. Every sender plays a part in ensuring that all deliveries arrive safe and sound.
